Most Adults 65+ with Medicare Used Health Care App or Website in Past Year

View in browser NEW & NOTEWORTHY Most Adults Ages 65 and Older with Medicare Say They Have Used a Health Care App or Website in the Past Year Months after the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services launched an initiative to "Make Health Tech Great Again," a new KFF poll shows that three in four adults ages 65 and older with Medicare coverage have used a health care app or website to help manage their care. Large shares of older adults with Medicare also say it is important for Medicare to make it easier to securely share information with their providers (81%) and increase the availability of apps that help manage chronic conditions (63%).   Among the poll findings:   Three in four older adults with Medicare say they have used a health care app or website in the past year to access medical records or lab test results. About six in ten say they have used such tools in the past year to manage prescriptions or medications (62%), send a direct message to their doctor or health care provider (57%), or make an appointment with a doctor or health care provider (55%).    Smaller shares say they've used a health care app or website to have a video appointment with their doctor or health care provider in the last year (30%) or used it to manage chronic conditions like diabetes or obesity with their doctor or health care provider (23%).   The public overall is still concerned about privacy and trust when it comes to health care apps, and many are cautious about the use of artificial intelligence, or AI.  Most adults express concerns about the privacy of their health information, regardless of whether an app is managed by the government, a private technology company, or a health insurance company. Designed and analyzed by public opinion researchers at KFF, this survey was conducted September 23-29, 2025, online and by telephone among a nationally representative sample of 1,334 U.S. adults in English and in Spanish. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3 percentage points for the full sample and 8 percentage points for adults 65 and older on Medicare. For results based on other subgroups, the margin of sampling error may be higher.
